Happy New Year!
Our January math topic is Measurement. In ELA we continue to work on Daily 5 and Café strategies.
Thank you to our parents who donated desserts and soup this month! All funds raised will go towards our year end field trip.
We enjoyed a mild walk to the Morley House on Friday. The residents were happy to have a visit. Students enjoyed a variety of parachute games.

We have had another visit to the Morley House. Students enjoyed visiting with the residents and crafting name tags. We look forward to our Christmas visit that will be on December 15.
Students have recently started Book Clubs. We have four different groups reading four different novels. Students read together in their group and then discuss the storyline. Students have enjoyed this so far!
In Math, we continue to work on Multiplication strategies and problem solving.

Halloween and our K-12 Spirit Week were a great success! I loved seeing all of the costumes during the week. Students were awarded House Team points for dressing up. Thank you to those parents that sent food for our party.
Students have been busy learning about Story Writing. We have created criteria together for how to write an excellent story. Students started with a Story Map and are now putting everything together. We are looking forward to sharing these with you at our conferences later this month.
In Math, we are continuing with 3 and 4 digit addition and subtraction. Students have had the opportunity to try a variety of strategies, including left to right, right to left, and using number lines. We have also used base ten blocks and place value charts. Another area of focus has been problem solving. Thanks to the help of the Grade 5-8 classes, we have learned the four steps to problem solving. These are:
1. Understand the Problem
2. Make a Plan
3. Show Your Work
4. Clearly Communicate Results
Report Cards will go home Monday, November 13. Conferences will happen after school on Wednesday, November 15. Letters with times will go home soon.
